The Black Studies Minor|What's New in Black Studies

Sunday, May 18, 1997 was a special day for all of us in the Providence College Program in Black Studies. Our very first group of students to earn minors in Black Studies graduated with the Class of 1997.

"The Black Studies Program here at Providence College is the product of strong initiative and hard work by the Black student body on campus. I am very proud and honored to have been involved in the process of getting the program implemented; it has shown me that goals can be accomplished if they are pursued with whole-heartedness and perseverance."

-- Maalikat Vill (Class of '97)

"When I came to Providence College as a freshman I decided that I wanted to be involved in Black Studies because I felt that it would enable me to do something about the problems of racism and oppression in our society. Through education about one another and understanding how and why we are where we currently are in society, we can see more clearly what has to be done to attain peace through justice in this country and this world."

-- Jeremy Healey (Class of '97)
