Free tutoring is available Monday through Thursday from 1:30
to 4:30 p.m. and from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Koffler Hall 219. The tutors
are accounting majors or minors and can provide tutoring for Principles of
Accounting (Acc 101 & Acc
102) and Financial Accounting (Acc 103).
Depending on the specific tutor, help can also be provided for more advanced
accounting courses (e.g., Intermediate, Cost,
Managerial, Advanced), but again,
this depends on the specific tutor. Check the tutors'
schedule to see the times that specific tutors are available. Feel
free to e-mail a tutor to determine if he or she can help you with your
particular course.
To make the most of your tutoring session, consider the
following:
- You must attempt or try your homework BEFORE seeing
a tutor. A tutor will NOT be able to help you if you do not
come prepared.
- See a tutor as soon as you realize that you need
help. Do NOT wait until an exam is a couple of days away
because it is unrealistic to expect a tutor to "teach" you
everything you need to know for an exam in a single tutoring session.
If you know that you are having difficulty, it is always best to set-up a
regular meeting time (e.g., once a week) with a tutor to review your
material. Again, check the tutors'
schedule to see the times that specific tutors are available.
- Pay attention in class. Otherwise, you won't know
what you don't understand, and you won't know what questions to ask your
tutor. See also #1 above about being prepared.
- If you feel that a tutor has not been particularly helpful,
feel free to work with a different tutor. Each tutor has his or her
own style of explaining concepts, and another tutor's style may suit you
better. Don't worry. You won't hurt anyone's feelings by doing
this, and besides, it's YOUR education so take control.
More questions? Need to provide feedback to someone about your tutor
and/or your tutoring session(s)? If so, please feel free to contact Margaret
Ruggieri. Good luck.
