Company Information on the World Wide Web There are innumerable sources of company information on the World Wide Web (WWW). The problem is locating exactly what you are looking for. You can find information regarding a specific company by doing an Internet search or by looking at web sites dedicated to providing such information. Examples of such sites include: Wall Street Journal Interactive Edition (Note: Access to some sections of this resource is limited to subscribers who pay for this service. Students subscribing to the Wall Street Journal receive a free subscription to this online service with the student subscription.) Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) EDGAR Database Stockmaster (Note: You can access a number of different sources of information about your company from Stockmaster, including News, Profile & Financials, Competitors, etc., by clicking on the various options located on the Quote and Charts page for your company. Wall Street Research Net: Check out this new link! LEXIS/NEXIS: Industry & Market News Time Warner's Pathfinder - Searchable interactive versions of Time Warner's CNN and publications, including Fortune, Time and Money. The Fortune link is particularly useful! Review the information available about your selected company, including how to request a hard copy of the company's annual report. You may be able to place such a request via e-mail, or may be required to call or write for one. If you are unable to locate the company you are looking for using one of the above resources, you can try finding the company by doing an Internet search. Other Sources of Company Information Compustat Financial Database - available in all campus computer labs The Wall Street Journal offers a free Annual Report and Earnings reader service whereby readers can obtain the annual report of any company for which the club sign (as in clubs on a deck of playing cards) appears. Look through the financial pages for the box which describes the service and then see if the company you are interested in is included. This service is also available online at the Wall Street Journal Interactive Edition web site. The second page of the Marketplace section of the Wall Street Journal contains an Index to Business which will help you find specific references to your company in that issue. The Phillips Memorial Library maintains a supply of annual reports of various companies. While these reports may be outdated, you should be able to find an address or phone number where you can request an updated report. If you are still unable to locate the company you are interested in researching or information about obtaining an annual report for a particular company, see your professor.
