Description

Because these are compressed summer sessions in which one class day equals a week of classes, there will be a quiz on every class day and two comprehensive examinations in each semester of this course. The quizzes and examinations may include team or group components as a portion of the grade. Quizzes and examinations will draw heavily from the reading and assignments, and will include questions from the supplemental text.

The quizzes and examinations will be held either in the regular classroom or a computer lab to provide students with experience in the computerized formats used in the CPA examination. Quizzes and examinations will be a combination of multiple choice questions, short answer or exercise type questions, essays, and/or comprehensive problems.

AN ABSENCE FROM CLASS MEANS A ZERO GRADE FOR THE QUIZ. In lieu of make-ups, the lowest quiz grade will be dropped. PLAN ANY ABSENCES ACCORDINGLY as I will treat all absences the same. Arriving late for class, or leaving early from class and missing the quiz will be treated as an absence from class which means you will receive a zero for the quiz.

No physical items may be present on your desk/table during a quiz or exam other than a simple writing instrument, i.e., pencil with eraser, and a simple NON-PROGRAMMABLE calculator (these are available in the bookstore for about $3); if you have other physical items on the desk/table I will fail you on the quiz with a zero. In the computer lab, if you have anything open on the computer desktop other than the quiz/exam you will fail the quiz/exam with a zero. If I see you looking at another table/computer monitor other than your own, I will fail you on the quiz/exam with a zero - be conservative and focus on your work only!

The following items are specifically BANNED FROM ALL QUIZZES AND EXAMS in my course: programmable calculators, cell phones, PDAs, pocket PCs, cameras, text devices, or any other digital or analog communication or recording device. If I see one of the prohibited items during the quiz/exam I will fail you on the quiz/exam. Therefore, if you need to carry any of these items to class, they must remain in a closed backpack or purse compartment with the power OFF for the entire class period on exam days, and off during the quiz portion of regular class days.

If you conscientiously do the assigned reading and assignments in conjunction with preparing your own solutions in advance of class review, and if you actively attend class, you will be sufficiently prepared for the quizzes and examination with modest review. If you fall behind in the reading and assignments, you will find the quizzes and final exam difficult.

Questions
about the content of quizzes and the exam may only be asked of me in regular class sessions when all of your classmates are present to hear my response. I will not answer questions privately or via e-mail.
