Class participation grades You must make substantive contributions to class discussions to earn your participation grade. A substantive contribution is a new observation by you that adds to everyone’s understanding. It is not a simplistic expression of agreement or disagreement with your classmates’ or my comments, nor is it a simplistic regurgitation of textbook/reading material. If you just attend class and do not participate, you will not earn full credit, 10 possible points per day. AN ABSENCE FROM CLASS MEANS A ZERO PARTICIPATION GRADE FOR THE DAY. Some make-up credit for valid absences cleared with me in advance, e.g., job interviews or non-routine illness, may be made by volunteering to present a WSJ brief in class on a day when an unannounced solicitation is made or by participating in a special Angel message board discussion which will be periodically provided in Angel for limited periods. If you attend every class, you may also augment your daily grades by participation in these aforementioned activities. You can review your daily participation grades and my comments on your performance in Angel, in your attendance summary.

The grading criteria for the other components are described in the various assignment sections.
