The financial analyst at Evergreen is an integral part of the segment's goals.  On average, an analyst will cover from 75 to 100 accounts in their duties.  This number varies based on the market value of the account and performance reporting tier.  Every account obviously is setup with its own goal, from accounts that invest in fixed income to preserve principal to accounts that seek to accumulate wealth by investing in high-risk growth stocks.  At the end of every month, it is the analyst's duty to make sure that every account has been reconciled.

After the reconciliation process, monthly performance is run to determine the monthly rate of return on the account.  These numbers are then compared to the indices for the specific account, generally one for equity and one for fixed income.  The performance numbers are then verified in several ways, one of which is simply comparing the index to the account return.  Finally, the performance data is uploaded to our Institutional Client Reporting system (ICR).  This data must be uploaded within a certain time frame.  These time frames for accounts are designated by tiers.  For instance, Tier "A" accounts must be uploaded by the third business day of the month.  From ICR, each portfolio manager pulls the return in order to complete the client reporting process and allow the client to make investment decisions based on the information at hand.

In my analyst position at Evergreen I use several software programs.  The main software that I use is the PORTIA investment software.  This software allows me to maintain my accounts by posting information such as buys, sells, dividends, and coupon and principal payments.  The user interface is relatively simple to use, and many reports such as performance numbers can be easily generated.

In reconciling accounts, I will also use our custodian software, Trustware.  This software is run by our Charlotte offices, and therefore, is read-only for us in the office.  Also relatively simple to use, this software is used to verify information in PORTIA.  If I am assigned an account which is not custodied at Wachovia, I may need to use the Internet to access a given bank's website, for instance Bank of New York.  Some of these websites are more difficult to use than others, but all are easy to become accustomed to.  E-mail within the office has become more and more important.  At Evergreen, we use the Lotus Notes e-mail software to communicate within the entire Wachovia corporation.
