Some Responsibilities
June 4, 2002

My job in the domestic tax department features many different responsibilities.  As an intern I'm often assigned projects that take time to finish, but are valuable to the people assigning them.

One of the major obstacles in completing these projects is my unfamiliarity with exactly where all the information I need is.  For example, I often times need to gather supporting documentation for different returns or projects that I'm working on, and a good portion of the time I really don't know exactly where to look.  Since I worked on the international side last year, I used different resources so I'm not too familiar with where binders are located for domestic, but as I start to do more work here, I've started to become accustomed to finding the resources I need.

I don't know if I definitely want to do tax work when I graduate, but I think working in the tax department can only benefit me.  Just seeing how the tax side of a corporation works will help me when I start out my career in public accounting.  By just seeing how a major corporation functions on a daily basis is going to prove beneficial at any rate.

Another area of this job that I think will benefit my career is the fact that each day I need to research different things and find supporting documents for everything that I do, something that will help me when I begin to do auditing both in the classroom as well as in my career.
