The First Week
May 29, 2002

Right from the very first day I have been kept busy with a myriad of different assignments.  The people here depend on the work you do for a lot of different things.  The work that is assigned is not just administrative assignments, like copying, but rather it is real work that these people use on a daily basis.  So the work that the interns complete is not just busy work but legitimate work that is important to the company.  The employees here expect a great deal of the interns and treat them as they would a full time employee.

For the first week, I worked on several different projects, among them, the payroll apportionment and the accrued income tax reconciliation.  These are different areas of accounting and tax work that I would not have been exposed to in the classroom, but will be beneficial to me further down the road in my career.  So far I have learned a great deal from the people I've been working with.

This week the other interns arrived and began working on projects once they were settled in.  The other domestic intern and I are now being introduced to the software Hasbro uses for their tax return compliance.  He and I will be filing the returns for several states over the next month or so.  This experience has again been beneficial because I am being exposed to the different software packages that Hasbro uses and gaining hands on experience of the workings of a major corporation.
