Finding an Internship
June 7, 2002

I began looking for a 2002 summer internship in August 2001.  I was in contact with KPMG since August; that is when the process began.  I learned about KPMG through Career Services as well as a friend who had a great experience interning with them the previous summer.

Obviously, I was knocking on their door pretty early, so they created a file for me and I sent my resume and cover letter to them along with my transcripts.  They contacted me again in December right before the fall semester of my junior year [fall 2001] was coming to a close.  I sent them updated transcripts as well as an updated resume.

It wasn’t until one Saturday afternoon in late February of 2002 that I interviewed with the firm.  They were scheduling interviews for the intern applicants all on that day, because they had been backed up from signing off on audits.  The interview was very professional, informing, and close to an hour long.  After the interview, I was told I would be hearing back from them either way by the end of the week.

On Friday, March 1st, 2002, I received an offer from KPMG.  After that I was in contact with the Providence office for travel arrangements etc. for the training session in Montvale, NJ.  Looking for a solid internship takes a lot of time, patience and perseverance.  By networking and contacting firms allows one to mature and become more responsible.
