After initially meeting with Accountemps, I thought I would have no problem getting a job. They had told me that they had some potential leads for me that they were working on. I had received a couple of calls from them inquiring if I knew certain software programs that were prerequisites for positions. Unfortunately, I did not have training for the specific programs. Although I was willing to learn the software, the companies were not willing to do on the job training.

I went approximately one week without hearing from Accountemps, after which I decided to give them a call to see what my status was for any jobs. Again, they told me that they had some leads and would give me a call in a few days. In a few days I did hear from them, but it was OfficeTeam that was calling instead. They had a position available at a doctor’s office taking phone calls for appointments and doing general office work. At this point, it was up to me to decide whether this was something that I wanted to do. It was a summer long job, but unfortunately it was only part time and did not have the compensation I was looking for, in addition to it being a relatively long distance from my home. I decided to decline the offer because it met few of the critical points I was looking for in my summer position.

At this point, I decided that I should look at at least one alternative temp agency to expand on the chances of finding a job. I found there was an Adecco close to where I lived so I decided to check them out. I went to their Danbury office to turn in my resume and make and appointment of an interview. Apparently they had just run a large ad in that week’s local paper, and all of the time slots were filled for the next two and a half weeks. I made the appointment hoping that some other person would cancel and I would be able to come earlier. I was also hoping that by then I would hear again from Accountemps or OfficeTeam and I would not have to go in for the appointment.

About a week later I receive a phone call from OfficeTeam bright an early at 8:00 am. (Since I was on vacation, I was of course sleeping!). I returned their phone call as soon as I woke up, assuming that since they called me so early that they had a job for me that they though I would either really want, or it was something that needed to be filled as soon as that morning. As the staffing person was describing the position, I began to realize that it was the some doctor’s office position that I had turn down not one week earlier. Even though I still did not have a job at this point, I declined the offer again because it was not what I was looking for. At this point, I was getting a little discouraged that I may never find a job for the summer. However, my attitude change when I would eventually get a phone call that would put an end to my search.
