Conference on Christian Culture

The annual Rev. Robert J. Randall Conference on Christian Culture will take place on Friday, April 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, April 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The conference, which will be held in Aquinas Lounge, is free and open to the public.

This year's conference, The Virtue of Religion, will feature several scholarly addresses. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Reinhard Huetter, the ninth Rev. Robert J. Randall Professor in Christian Culture at Providence College. Huetter is a professor of Christian theology at Duke Divinity School.

He will deliver "Happiness and the Virtue of Religion, Then and Now: Ruminations on Thomas Aquinas."

In addition to Huetter, the conference also will feature presentations from:

  • Rev. Romanus Cessario, O.P., professor of systematic theology at St. John’s Seminary School of Theology in Massachusetts, who will deliver "Sacrifice: Social and Sacramental: The Witness of Louis Billot, S.J.";
  • Russell Hittinger, the William K. Warren Professor of Catholic Studies at the University of Tulsa and the 2007-08 Rev. Robert J. Randall Professor in Christian Culture, who will deliver "Religious Liberty and the Virtue of Religion: Another Look at Dignitatis Humanae";
  • Bruce D. Marshall, Lehman Professor of Christian Doctrine and graduate program director in Religious Studies at Southern Methodist University’s Perkins School of Theology, who will deliver "The Religion of Mary and Jesus"; and
  • Rev. Thomas Joseph White, O.P., assistant professor of systematic theology at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C., who will deliver "Religion Unnatural, Secularism Unnatural. or the Natural Religion of Christ? Nature, Grace and the Virtues of Religion."
