, won the 2013 Rodney Higgins Best Faculty Paper award from the National Conference of Black Political Scientists for her paper entitled “Black Girlhood and the Help.”

Appointments & Honors

Dr. Edward Andrews, assistant professor of history, was selected by the National Endowment for Humanities (NEH) to receive the prestigious NEH Summer Stipends Program grant, for his project “One Soul, tho’ not one Soyl”: American Missionary Connections with Asia at the Dawn of the Global Age.”

Julie DeCesare, assistant professor and head of research and education, was named a board member at the Rhode Island Library Association in Newport in June.

Dr. Robert Hackey, professor of health policy, was selected to be a first-round judge for the Carnegie/CASE 2013 U.S. Professors of the Year competition in May.

Katherine Jacobs, assistant dean for international studies, was selected by the Japan-United States Educational Commission (JUSEC) and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB) for a 2013 Fulbright International Education Administrator (IEA) Award to Japan.

Dr. James Tattersall, professor of mathematics, was inducted into the Thomas Jefferson Society of the University of Virginia in May. The Thomas Jefferson Society of Alumni is the longest continuous reunion program at the University of Virginia.

Dr. Yinsheng Wan, professor of biology, was appointed vice president of the North American Association of Chinese Dermatologists in Miami, in February.
