Resource Center

The Women's Studies Resource Center is the home of the Women's Studies Program, a place for obtaining access to Women's Studies resources in a variety of media, and a comfortable space for meetings, study and quiet informal gatherings. Located in the lower level of the Philips Memorial Library, room LL 18 B, it contains the offices of the Director and the Administrative Assistant, and the Resource Room. It is open most weekdays during the academic year from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Hot and cold beverages usually are available.

Students and faculty are invited to make use of the materials in the Resource Center. In addition to comfortable sofas and work tables, it contains one student computer with internet access and a video monitor with videotape and DVD playback. Resources include hundreds of books on topics related to women and gender studies; these books are arranged according to the Library of Congress system and catalogued in the HELIN library system (available online at http://library.uri.edu/screens/opacmenu.html with the location listed as "PC Women's Studies"). These books may be borrowed by Providence College faculty and students by signing them out with the WMS Administrative Assistant or Office Assistant. Periodicals available include: Women's Review of Books, Off Our Backs, Ms. Magazine, National Catholic Reporter, Signs, and NWSA Journal. Other resources include information on graduate study in Women's Studies, materials related to teaching Introduction to Women's Studies, a collection of romance novels for class projects, and many audio and videotapes.
