Opened in 2005, the Smith Center for the Arts houses the Department of Theatre,Dance, and Film and the Department of Music in a 55,000-square-foot building on the College’s east campus. TDF (Theatre, Dance and Film) venues include the Angell Blackfriars Theatre, the John Bowab Studio Theatre and the Clark Dance Studio. Scene shop, costume shop, box office, prop and costume storage are within the Smith Center, as well as classrooms and faculty offices. Film production facilities are located in the Feinstein Academic Center nearby.
Angell Blackfriars Theatre
- The Angell Blackfriars Theatre is a state of the art proscenium /modified thrust theatre located in the Smith Center for the Arts which opened in 2005. The Angell Blackfriars is home to the main stage series of plays, musicals and dance concerts produced annually by the Department of Theatre, Dance & Film.

John Bowab Studio Theatre
- The John Bowab Stduio Theatre is a flexible 43 ’x 52’ black box theatre located in the Smith Center for the Arts. The Bowab is both a teaching and performance facility. It is home to studio courses offered by the Department of Theatre Dance & Film and serves as a rehearsal space for students enrolled in acting and directing courses. Additionally, the Department of Theatre, Dance & Film sponsors an annual series of student directed plays which are produced in the Bowab.
