Dirigo

The SAIL Office is proud to sponsor Dirigo, an Honor Society for juniors and seniors who have excelled as student leaders throughout their college tenure.  Students are nominated by members of the Providence College faculty and staff for this honor.  A selection committee carefully reviews each nomination, and selects students representing the top leaders in their class.

The term dirigo is Latin for “I lead” or “I guide.”  This honor will only be bestowed upon students with the strongest leadership background.  A silver metal embodying the college logo, the Veritas flame, is awarded to each inductee.

Membership in the honor society is contingent upon several key qualifications. Candidates should be current juniors or seniors, maintain a minimum G.P.A of 3.0, and currently be in, and remain in good judicial standing at the College.  Honorees must also have:

  • Proven leadership involvement throughout college tenure
  • Participated in organized college activities throughout college tenure
  • Assumed leadership responsibility in one or more organizations or offices on campus
  • Demonstrated a commitment to the core values stated in the Providence College mission statement

Dirigo Application Form

Dirigo honorees who are inducted at the end of their senior year become distinguished alumni/ae who are encouraged to return to campus to assist with future leadership projects, programs, or guest lectures. The honorees inducted at the end of their junior year are expected to assume new leadership responsibilities in their senior year.  Responsibilities will include assisting with the planning and execution of leadership programming on campus, including the facilitation and planning of a new Freshman Leadership Retreat program called Transformations, which will occur over one weekend in the fall semester.  All Dirigo members may be called upon to assist in selecting future Dirigo nominees.

Honorary members of Dirigo are bestowed the same privileges of full membership without the expectation of assuming any responsibility to the organization.
