Student Congress

pcstudentcongress.com

The Student Congress is the only group on campus that is representative of the entire student body. The entire student body elects the executive board, which consists of a president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary, annually.  Their roles are pivotal as they coordinate all functions of the remaining Student Congress members.

Working under the direction of the executive board are the elected representatives from each class.  Each class elects a president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary as well as five class representatives.  This group is responsible for communicating the specific needs of each class to the rest of Student Congress and administrators. All serve for a term of one year.

The third part of Student Congress is the six specific committees.  Each committee has a specific field of interest such as student life or academics. The respective committees carry out many functions ranging from talking with Sodexho on food choices, to sponsoring legislation which would call for increased wages of campus RA's, to introducing legislation that would call for more shuttles to and from campus.  For a complete list of committees and their functions see the "Committees" section.

The primary purpose of the Student Congress is to pass legislation that accurately represents the student body in all facets of college life.  All legislation passed by Student Congress is then forwarded to administrators who can make changes that Providence College students wish to see.

Please fill it out and email it to apulaski@friars.providence.edu.

These committees typically meet on a monthly, basis, and allow students the opportunity to provide feedback on important issues on campus. Last spring, Student Congress passed legislation requiring a short application and interview process for all committee openings. We want to ensure that every student has an equal chance to become involved and make their voice heard!

The following committees have openings:

Academic Integrity Board (5 student members, 5 alternates)
Honorary Degree Committee (2 students - seniors only)
Calendar Committee (1 student)
Instructional Technology Committee (1 student - sophomore or junior)
Teaching Award Selection Committee (1 student)
Student Affairs Committee (2 students)

Applications will be due this Friday 10/2 by 4pm

The Executive Board of the 60th Student Congress will review all submitted applications and contact promising candidates next Monday 10/5, and Tuesday 10/6 for a short interview. We look forward to hearing from you! And as always, if you have any questions please contact members of 60th Student Congress Executive Board:
