A Cappella Club
Providence College's A Capella Club, founded in 1999, believes in educating, enlightening and entertaining the PC campus, as well as outside communities, through a capella music. There are currently three singing groups: Special Guest (all-male), Anaclastic (all-female), and Strictly Speaking (co-ed). A Support Group helps the club by supporting all events and activities. If music is your talent or you're simply wanting to have fun, then think about joining the A Capella Club!
Anaclastic
Anaclastic is Providence College's only Female a cappella group.Originating in 1998, Anaclastic has bound together some of PC's finest musicians. Most often, Anaclatic arranges their own music.
Art Club
Blackfriars Theatre
The Blackfriars Theatre at Providence College is located in Harkins Hall, and has served since the mid-1980s, as a dedicated performance space and second home to those undergraduates and faculty devoted to the art and craft of theatre. Each season of the Blackfriars Theatre is a rich, eclectic showcase for the talents of students and faculty.
Cheerleaders
The PC Cheerleaders promote spirit and sportsmanship at many athletic, alumni and school activities. We believe in developing well-rounded student-athletes. We encourage men and women interested in cheerleading to join us at our annual collegiate summer camp.
Concert Band
Rehearse 2.5 hours a week. This band performs serious concert music for wind and percussion including works of the great British and American band composers of the Twentieth Century as well as orchestral transcriptions from the earlier style periods of music. Students will rehearse regularly and perform in concert each semester. Rehearsals will include ensemble development and stylistic performance appropriate to the pieces being performed. Open to all students with a prior instrumental background.
Dance Club
Dance Club is a student-run organization that is open to all. No experience is necessary to participate. Dance Club is comprised of two parts: weekly classes & performances. Weekly classes vary by style, are student-taught, and meet once per week for an hour. There are two performances held each semester and all routines are student-choreographed. Rehearsals for each dance are held weekly.
Dance Company
The members of the PC Dance Company, under the direction of Dr. Wendy Oliver, perform twice a year for the PC community. The performances showcase pieces choreographed by student members in a variety of styles including jazz, tap, modern, ballet and lyrical. Many members take the opportunity to attend the New England Dance Expo in the spring to share their talent with dancers from across New England. The Dance Company allows members to develop their own style while learning from each other in a creative environment.
Dance Team
The Providence College Dance Team performs at men's and women's home basketball games and at Midnight Madness. The team also attends a number of hockey games, as well as other PC and community activities. The squad choreographs their own dances and works together to entertain the fans and serve as role models for the PC community.
Friars Cell
The Friar's Cell is a student-produced and operated laboratory theater program sponsored by the PC Theater Department. It seeks to provide students with the opportunity to be fully responsible for all artistic choices, administrative responsibilities and management involved in the production of a play.
Irish Dance Club
Initiated in 2005, the the club continues to grow. In its first two years, the club has approximately 30 members, and over 60 students have participated in events and practices. The club encourages new members to join!
Jazz Band
This group performs jazz from the modern jazz period, swing era, bebop era, and other style periods of jazz. Students will be given experiences in stylistic performance of large and small group jazz. Instrumentalists interested in jazz who play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, or a rhythm section instrument are encouraged to enroll. Other instrumentalists and singers should consult the instructor before enrolling. Students will rehearse regularly and perform each semester. Placement by group audition.
Japanese Animation Club
PC Band
This group performs for athletic and college events and community service performances. Music performed includes popular, jazz, rock, concert, seasonal, and other styles appropriate to these situations. Rehearsals focus on achieving accurate intonation, balance, blend, and other aspects of exemplary ensemble performance. All students with an instrumental background are welcome, placement is by the director. Regular attendance at all rehearsals and all performances is expected.
Special Guest
Special Guest is PC's first and only all-male a capella group. A member of the A Capella Club, we are in our sixth year of existence and continue to grow. Special Guest has become one of the most respected a capella groups in the Providence area. We give approximately 100 performances on and off campus every year. From the National Championships of Collegiate A Capella, to concerts in Stuart's, to the Fleet Center in Boston, we are known for our fun, off-beat style and our eclectic repertoire of popular and contemporary music.
Stage Band
Strictly Speaking
Just under three years old, Strictly Speaking has come a long way since its inception. Our goal is to develop our technical skills as well as gain a larger fan base. We participate in all of the A Capella Club events, as well as other independent events.
PC Women's Chorus
This non-auditioned chorus will meet twice a week and serve as an introduction to choral singing for the beginner as well as serving the more experienced singer interested in examining a variety of musical styles.
Concert Chorale
This mixed chorus is the auditioned large ensemble and serves as the touring chorus. This chorus’ repertoire provides an excellent opportunity to study and perform the widest possible range of a cappella and accompanied choral music.
I Cantori
This small auditioned mixed chorus is Providence College’s premiere choral ensemble, used both on and off campus when ambassadors of quality music are needed. Members are drawn from the Concert Chorale, allowing this group to be showcased on tours. This group performs a wide assortment of sacred and secular literature appropriate for the chamber ensemble.
Orchestra
This ensemble incorporates musicians who play an orchestral instrument. Previous experience with a string instrument is required. The ensemble rehearses one-and-a-half hours twice a week and will explore a wide range of repertoire for orchestra from Baroque to contemporary music. The orchestra will also perform in concerts sponsored by the Music Department during each semester of the academic year.
Liturgical Choir
Liturgical Choir is the group of students that sing at the liturgies. There are no auditions. The choir is open to anyone who has the desire to sing for God.
