Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What is a PC Card?
A.
Your PC Card is your Providence College identification card and much more.  Your PC Card is also your meal card, provides access to your residence hall, library card, a means of tracking class attendance, as well as a safe and convenient way to make purchase on campus.

Q. Where do I go if I have questions about my PC Card?
A.
The PC Card Office is located in room 400 in Harkins Hall.  Business hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 to 4:30.

Q. What if my card is lost or stolen?
A.
Come to the PC Card Office in room 400 of Harkins Hall and we will issue you a new card. There will be a $15.00 fee for the replaced card.  Your lost or stolen card will become invalid.

Q. What if I left my card at home?
A.
Come to the PC Card Office and we will issue you a temporary card. Temporary cards are good for three days and there is a $3.00 fee for the temporary card.  Your original card will become invalid until you return the temporary card.

Q. What if my card is bent, broken, or demagnetized?
A.
Come to the PC Card Office and we will reprint you a card. You must have your old card with you. There will be a $5.00 fee for the damaged card.

Q. Can I have more than one ID card?
A.
No.  For security reasons, we cannot allow you to have more than one card.  Someone (possibly not associated with the college) could use your ID to use the services on campus unlawfully.

Q. What privileges come with my PC Card?
A.
You have use of the library to check out books, Coke and snack vending machines throughout campus, and copy machines in the library.  If you have a meal plan, the PC Card is your access to food service, if you live in the residence halls, it is your key to your building.

Q. Why doesn't my card work?
A.
It could be because your card is bent, the magnetic strip is scratched or the magnetic stripe has been demagnetized.  Bring it by the PC Card Office and we will diagnose the problem for you.

Q. What is the difference between PC Cash and Friar Bucks?
A.
Friar Bucks are tied to your meal plan and can only be spent in the Alumni Hall food court.  PC Cash is used to make purchases in the Providence College Bookstore, vending machines and copy machines.

Q. How do I put PC Cash on my card?
A.
There are two cash-to-card machines on campus (the library and the Slavin Center).  Swipe your card in the card slot.  Insert your bills into the bill acceptor.  Press the exit button when finished adding money. The money inserted will be credited to your account instantly. The Student Accounts Office in Harkins Hall also accepts cash and checks for PC Cash.

Q. Where can I use PC Cash?
A.
Your PC Cash can be used in The Providence College Bookstore, vending machines, and copy machines in the library.   The amount used at each of these locations will be debited from your card after each use.

Q. What's next for the PC Card?
A.
Currently, we are working on adding an Online Card Office.  The Online Card Office would enable students to track recent transactions, and suspend their card 24 hours a day all over the web.
