Urban Action Information

Dear New Student:

We are pleased to invite you to participate in a very special community service program.  Urban Action (UA) is a program designed for incoming freshmen that increases students' understanding of urban issues while also introducing them to the Providence community.  Through UA, students will spend four days volunteering at local sites in the city of Providence - making a difference in their new community.

UA 2008 will take place Wednesday, August 27th through Saturday, August 30th.  All participants must arrive on campus by 11am on Wednesday.  At this time students will meet with the UA Leaders in the Slavin Center.  Urban Action will conclude in time for all students to participate in Freshmen Move-In Day and the trip to Newport.  Please note that students participating in the Fall Orientation program will be unable to participate in the Urban Action program.

UA will be limited to 150 first-year students.  Selection will be determined by a lottery system after the application deadline.  Applications must be postmarked by July 8, 2008.  All applicants will be notified by mail as early as possible.

Print an application here.

Please note that the Urban Action program will be discussed in more detail during the summer Orientation program.

Sincerely,
'08 Urban Action Leaders

Project Sites:
The Urban Action 2008 site will be posted when it is confirmed.  In past years, participants have worked at different community service sites in the Providence area.  The primary work is often cleaning, painting, and gardening.  No special skills are required.  All that is needed is a willingness to get involved and work hard!

Extras:
These days will not be all work!  Urban Action is also a great opportunity to meet other students and to learn more about Providence College.  Everyone could use a head start in getting to know the people and community of PC.  Nighttime activities are also included in the schedule.  This program will be a reward for you, as well as the community.

Meals:
All meals will be provided from Wednesday evening through Sunday morning and are included in the program cost.

Cost:
$140 per participant

Payment:
Full payment will be required following your acceptance to the program.
