Placement Exam Information

Dear New Student:

Welcome to the Providence College community.  During the Orientation program, you will work with your academic advisor to plan, select, and register for classes for the fall semester.  To assist in this process, we offer four online placement tests, one in Mathematics and the others in Spanish, French, and Italian, that you must complete by June 6th.  All are offered online and can be taken at any computer with internet access.  Please rest assured, placement into Mathematics or language classes does not depend solely on the results of these tests.  They will be considered in addition to the courses you have taken in high school, your grades, your SAT scores, and your own assessment of your abilities.

  • All incoming freshmen must take the Placement Test in Mathematics.
  • If you have taken Spanish, French, or Italian in high school and are considering continuing your language studies at PC, you should also take the Placement Test in Spanish, French, and/or Italian.

The placement tests are on ANGEL, our course management software at PC.  As a Providence College student, you now have access to this web site at:
http://angel.providence.edu

  1. To log on, enter your ANGEL username and password (provided by mail following your acceptance to PC.)
  2. You will then be prompted to change your password.
  3. Click on Logon.
  4. Once you have logged on, your Profile Page will be visible.  You are a member of the three Placement Test groups and will see them listed here.
  5. Click on the test you wish to take first.  Follow the instructions to take the test.
  6. Click on Submit when you are finished.
  7. You may then take additional tests, if necessary, or log off until later.

You will need about an hour for each of the tests.  There is a Mathematics Placement Survey which you must complete before you begin the Placement Test in Mathematics.  The language placement tests have audio components, so be sure to use a computer with sound.  You do not need to take them at the same time.

Remember, you may take your placement test(s) anytime after you receive your username, but you must finish by June 6th.  If you have any questions about the placement testing, please feel free to contact the placement test coordinator at (401) 865-2177 or ccrafts@providence.edu
