APARTMENT, SUITE, AND TRADITIONAL HALL HOUSING SELECTION
For Members of the Classes of 2011 and 2012
If you are a member of the Class of 2011 or Class of 2012, you are invited to participate in the on-campus apartment, suite, and traditional hall selection processes for the 2010-2011 academic year which will take place on November 18, 2009 for the Class of 2011 and on March 25, 2010 for the Class of 2012.
Preference will be given to the rising seniors (Class of 2011) followed by the rising juniors (Class of 2012). The Class of 2013 will participate in a separate housing selection occurring later in the spring of 2010. Please note that a complete group cannot include a rising sophomore (Class of 2013). Only rising seniors and juniors will have the opportunity to reserve rooms in this selection process.
In order to participate in the 2010-2011 apartment, suite, and traditional hall housing selection process, your financial account must not have an outstanding balance AND you must submit a $200 non-refundable deposit in person to the Office of Financial Services no later than Wednesday, November 11, 2009. The white copy of the housing deposit receipt must be submitted to the Office of Residence Life by November 11th at 4:00 p.m. in order to receive a lottery time for the selection process. Any rising junior (Class of 2012) who makes a deposit and/or submits the receipt copy after this date may not participate in the regularly scheduled housing process on March 25, 2010, will not be considered to live off campus, and will be assigned housing at the discretion of the Dean of Residence Life or his designee. Members of the Class of 2013 will submit housing deposits and select on-campus housing in the spring semester.
UPDATE: The $200 non-refundable deposit can be paid to the Bursar's Office online (with bank routing information). The receipt must be printed out and delivered to the Office of Residence Life by the set deadline.
In addition to the housing deposit receipt, rising juniors will be required to submit a housing application to the Office of Residence Life by February 25, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. Rising juniors can include rising seniors as part of a group in the housing application. The application will provide individuals/groups the opportunity to request the type of on-campus housing in order of preference. After February 25th, the Office of Residence Life will randomly assign each individual/group a specific type of housing (e.g. 4-person suite, 6-person apartment, etc.) based upon the application information and housing availability. Students will then be informed of their assigned type of housing and receive a time card for the housing selection in their Friar mailboxes. On the assigned housing selection day, individuals/groups will arrive in the Aquinas Hall Lounge at their assigned time to select an apartment, suite, or traditional hall room. All students participating in the housing selection process will be required to sign a housing contract as well as select a meal plan. Note: Members of the Class of 2011 are not required to submit a housing deposit and application if they plan to live off campus during the 2010-2011 academic year.
Members of the Class of 2012 requesting permission to live off campus during the 2010-2011 academic year must submit an off-campus housing request application to the Office of Residence Life by 4:00 p.m. on November 11, 2009. A limited number of rising juniors will be randomly granted permission to live off campus for the 2010-2011 academic year; therefore, students may not sign off-campus leases until written approval is received by the Dean of Residence Life. This is the only opportunity for a rising junior to request to live off campus during his/her junior year. The rising juniors who are granted permission to live off campus will be informed via email on December 14, 2009 and the $200 housing deposit will be credited to their student accounts after attending a required off-campus living workshop (TBA).
NOTE: The Office of Residence Life has notified the Class of 2012 applicants who have been approved to reside off campus during the 2010-2011 academic year and will not approve requests submitted after the established deadline.
Class of 2011 Housing Application: Academic Year 2010-2011 Housing Application (Class of 2011)
Class of 2012 Off-Campus Housing Request Application: No longer available
Class of 2012 Housing Application: Academic Year 2010-2011 Housing Application (Class of 2012)
Housing selection will take place on November 18, 2009 for rising seniors and March 25, 2010 for rising juniors in the Aquinas Hall Lounge. Floor plans showing all available apartments, suites, and traditional hall rooms will be displayed from which students will select their housing.
All members of the Class of 2012 who do not participate in the housing selection process and have not received permission to reside off campus will be assigned on-campus housing at the discretion of the Office of Residence Life after the rising junior housing selection in the spring.
Students on Approved Off-Campus Study: Students planning to study abroad for a single semester are required to select one of three available housing options, or they will not be permitted to study abroad during the 2010-2011 academic year. The Office of Residence Life must be informed of the chosen option prior to or during the housing selection process. Please review the study abroad information, including a description of the available housing options, here: Housing Policy for Students on Approved Off-Campus Study (2010-2011).
The Office of Residence Life has scheduled housing information sessions on Thursday, February 11th at 5:30 p.m. in the Suites Hall Pavilion and Wednesday, February 17th at 5:30 p.m. in the Aquinas Hall Lounge to address questions prior to the housing selection.
IMPORTANT POINTS:
- Members of the Class of 2011 who plan to live on campus, either in the traditional halls, apartments and/or suites during the 2010-2011 academic year, must make a $200 non-refundable housing deposit to the Office of Student Accounts (Harkins Hall rm.400) as well as submit a housing application and deposit receipt to the Office of Residence Life by Wednesday, November 11, 2009.
- All members of the Class of 2012 are required to make a $200 non-refundable housing deposit to the Office of Student Accounts (Harkins Hall rm.400) and deliver the deposit receipt to the Office of Residence Life by Wednesday, November 11, 2009. In addition, rising juniors requesting permission to live off campus during the 2010-2011 academic year must submit an off-campus housing request application by November 11th. Any rising junior with an off-campus request who does not submit a housing deposit and application by the deadline will not be considered. Rising juniors will be provided the opportunity to submit an on-campus housing application (by February 25th) and select their room during the housing selection process in Aquinas Hall Lounge (on March 25th). Any rising junior that has not met the established deadlines and/or does not participate in the housing selection process will be assigned on-campus housing at the discretion of the Dean of Residence Life or his designee.
- Apartments or suites may be reserved for no fewer than four or six person groups, filling each bed of the apartment or suite as applicable. Example: A group requesting a 6-person suite must be made up of six rising juniors and/or seniors. Students may choose to voluntarily overcrowd a room, however, rebates are not available. One representative from each group may represent the entire group at the housing selection. However, he or she must have each student’s Providence College I.D. and time card.
- Although one person may represent an entire group when reserving an apartment or suite during the selection process, each resident must sign a contract in the Office of Residence Life within 24 hours of the housing selection. Failure to do so will result in forfeiture of the apartment, suite, or traditional hall room for the entire group. Students who select on-campus housing and who later decide to transfer from the College will automatically be replaced with a wait-listed or transfer student and will forfeit the $200 deposit.
- Regardless of situation (financial or otherwise), a student cannot be released from his/her housing contract. Also, as stipulated in the Student Handbook, it is not possible for the College to grant housing for one semester only. Students are financially responsible for both the fall and spring semesters.
- Individuals/groups are only permitted to submit one housing application for this selection process. Note: Once housing is selected, room changes are not permitted until October 15, 2010.
- Rebates for overcrowded rooms are only available to the freshman class.
- Any rising senior or junior member of a group who does not make a housing deposit by November 11th may not participate in the housing selection. Please be aware that this will cause your group to be incomplete; therefore, they will be unable to reserve an apartment or suite.
- A list of potential roommates and contact information is available in the Office of Residence Life for review by incomplete groups and individuals looking for roommates.
- Please note that although the apartments and suites are equipped with central air conditioning capability, air conditioning is never guaranteed.
-
With regard to meal plans, students residing in the traditional residence halls are required to purchase either a 19- or a 15-meal plan; students residing in the suites have the additional option of an 11-meal plan. Students residing in on-campus apartments are not required to purchase a meal plan; however, a variety of plans are available to them (19, 15, 11, or 7 meals per week).
