Living the Catholic and Dominican Mission

"Providence College prepares its students to be responsible and productive citizens to serve in their own society and the greater world community."

-excerpt from the College's Mission Statement

Community service and social justice advocacy is central to the Providence College mission and is a shared experience of many PC students.  Providence College students engage in a vast array of voluntary community service each year, through a number of different academic departments and co-curricular programs.

Students are offered the invitation to serve:

  • marginalized groups such as youth, the elderly, non-native English speakers, the ill, people living with disabilities, those struggling to meet their basic needs of food and shelter, and other service, including caring for our earth

  • at one-time days of service, on a consistent, weekly basis, or over Fall Break, January Break, or Spring Break

  • through direct service, advocacy, community organizing, or community-based research

  • on campus, in the greater Providence community, up and down the East Coast, on a Native American reservation, and in Mexico

During the 2006-2007 academic year, over 2,000 PC students were actively involved in volunteering beyond 45,000 hours of service.  Join this growing community of passionate and engaged students by searching the links at the left for more information about the service opportunities available through various campus departments.
