Health professions schools are interested in applicants who are informed about the professions, are altruistic, compassionate and able to communicate effectively. Shadowing, volunteer, summer and other internship programs provide opportunities to explore and to determine one’s suitability for the health professions. The link below provides a listing of some of the summer programs available to undergraduate students interested in exploring the health professions.
Pre-Medical Summer Programs PDF
Students should select experiences that broaden their knowledge of the health professions and allow self-assessment of ability and desire to work with and serve others. The health professions are, first and foremost, service professions.
Often students begin to explore the health professions by shadowing professionals during semester breaks. Shadowing opportunities are coordinated by the Providence College Office of Career Services. Numerous Summer Internship Programs are also available to undergraduates, many for academic credit. Visit Career Services for information about internships for credit.
