Undergraduate Degree Programs

In addition to an array of education-related graduate programs, the School of Professional Studies houses undergraduate programs in Elementary/Special Education, Secondary Education, Health Policy & Management, and Social Work.  Thus, the School of Professional Studies can be considered to contain the human services programs of the college.

Our programs are a true personification of the Providence College mission.  Our faculty bring the reflective and critical thinking mindset of the liberal arts to bear on the everyday lives of people and the challenges we all face as a society.  Our aim is to not just develop graduates who can do a job but prepare professionals who will change how things are done; who will improve their professions, and their communities.

All of our programs are characterized by a concern for the other, a sense of social justice,  a focus on leadership in the field, practical applications of theory, strong and rigorous field experiences, and readiness upon graduation for jobs or graduate school.

Some of the highlights of our programs are as follows.  The Elementary/Special Education program is blended, such that all graduates are eligible for state certification in both elementary and special education upon completion, increasing their marketability.  Our Secondary Education students complete the same rigorous content coursework as any other student in their major, which provides them with the sort of content expertise that today’s high schools require.  Our Health Policy & Management program is the fastest growing program on campus and is led by a vibrant, cutting edge faculty.  The internships students complete in this program prepare them for entry into a wide variety of professions, as well as graduate programs.  Finally, our Social Work program is so well regarded that graduates who enter two-year Masters in Social Work programs regularly enter with second-year status, thus shaving a year off the program.
