Philosophy
The Department of Philosophy at Providence College offers both a Major and a Minor in Philosophy.
Philosophy Majors are required to take 11 courses (33 credits) in Philosophy, including:
(1) Logic Elective
Either PHL 101 Logic or PHL 315 Symbolic Logic
(2) PHL 300 Ancient Philosophy
(3) PHL 330 Wisdom of Aquinas
(4) PHL 360 Modern Philosophy
(5) PHL 426 Metaphysics
(6) Ethics Core
(7) Contemporary Elective
One of the following:
PHL 326 Contemporary Women Philosophers
PHL 352 Philosophy of Mind
PHL 412 Contemporary Philosophy
PHL422 Contemporary Existentialism
(8) PHL 480 Seminar
(9) Elective
(10) Elective
(11) Elective
NB: At least 8 courses (24 credits) must be at the 300 or 400 level.
The Minor
Philosophy Minors are required to take 6 courses (18 credits) in Philosophy, including:
(1) Logic Elective
Either PHL101 Logic or PHL 315 Symbolic Logic
(2) Elective
(3) Elective
(4) Elective
(5) Elective
NB: At least 3 courses (9 credits) must be at the 300 or 400 level.
