University of Notre Dame, Fremantle, Australia

Fremantle, Australia
The University of Notre Dame Australia's main campus is located in the historic port city of Fremantle near the state capital of Perth, Western Australia.  Fremantle's colorful history, superb architecture and cosmopolitan lifestyle make it a unique and popular destination.  Nearby beaches, sporting facilities, and cultural events combine with the advantage of department stores, specialty shops, markets, restaurants and cafes all within walking distance.  An efficient suburban rail service connects Fremantle to nearby central Perth.

The University of Notre Dame

The University of Notre Dame Australia was founded through an Act of the Western Australian Parliament and a Canonical Statute from the Archdiocese of Perth.  Notre Dame is a private Catholic university committed to ensuring that students receive a personalized, high quality education.  The University has a strong undergraduate program, offering degrees in five faculties.

Students at the University of Notre Dame Australia may participate in a wide variety of extracurricular activities, including boardriding, dancing, drama, music, charity, sports, environment, language clubs, and journalism.  University students also have access to the library and computing facilities.

Academic Program
The University of Notre Dame offers PC students the opportunity to pursue an academic year of study in the areas of arts and social science, counseling, science, business, law, education and Indigenous Australian Studies.  Courses are offered in the lecture and seminar format.  Students will attend classes, submit papers, and take final examinations along with the Australian students.

Students usually select five courses with a total number of Australian credits that is equivalent to 30 U.S. credits for the academic year (or 15 for a semester).  Students will have an opportunity to discuss course selection in detail with Academic Advisors and faculty members in the appropriate departments at the University.  Students often make final registration choices once they have arrived in Australia.

The academic year is divided into two semesters:

  • Fall Semester: February to June
  • Spring Semester: August to December

Eligibility
For this program, students must have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better.  Assessment of the student's ability to produce the appropriate scholarly work in the courses and a capacity for independent, self-directed study are important aspects of the application process for this program.  Application for this program is made through the Study Abroad Programs Office.
