Richmond in Rome, Italy, AIFS

American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS)

Rome, Italy
The 2,000-year-old capital, Rome is unique in both Italy and the world. Centered between the northern and southern borders of the country, it is ideally situated for exploring Italy’s many and varied points of interest. With a population of more than four million, Rome is a dynamic, modern city. It is impossible not to be amazed and impressed by its classical and cultural heritage—from the Colosseum and Roman Forum of ancient times to the Romanesque, Renaissance and Baroque churches and monuments built just a few centuries ago. Site of the Vatican, Rome occupies a unique position in the Christian world. St. Peter’s Basilica and the Vatican’s buildings and treasures are in the heart of the city. Rome caters to every taste. After a semester, students will find they have just scratched the surface and undoubtedly will want to return to explore more of what the city offers.
