A successful international experience begins with much planning and preparation on the part of the student!
The process of researching and selecting a Junior Year Study Abroad Program is similar to the process of applying to college. The process requires much of a student's time and attention to details and deadlines.
All students who wish to study abroad must complete the Providence College Study Abroad Application Form. Hydra, Greece
Studying abroad for the full academic year is recommended, so plan early!
First-Year Students: Plan to Study Abroad
Sophomores: Apply for Approval to Study Abroad
Fall Semester:

Declare a major by the first semester of your sophomore year.

Attend the Junior Year Study Abroad Information Session for Sophomores .

Speak with former student participants about their international experiences at the International Coffee Hour sponsored by the Center for International Studies.

Choose the program. See "Deciding on a Program" link (left).

Make an appointment in the Office of Financial Aid to discuss grants, loans or scholarships, 215 Harkins, ext.2286.

Contact the Residence Life Office to discuss on-campus policies and options, 110 Joseph, ext. 2392.

Complete the Providence College Study Abroad Application Form. Attend the Application Workshop to assist students with completing the PC study abroad application process.

Attend the Study Abroad Program Search Workshop to assist students with researching program information.

Schedule an application review meeting at the Center for International Studiesto discuss and review your study abroad application, program choice, and academic schedule. You will need to submit a complete application before December 1st.
Spring Semester:

Sophomores will receive notification of the decision to approve participation in the Junior Year Study Abroad Program by mid-February. Letters will be mailed to students' Friarboxes.

Once participation in a study abroad program has been approved by Providence College in writing, the student will need to complete the program sponsor's application for acceptance to the particular study abroad program in which she or he would like to participate. This allows the student to receive specific information about course registration, orientation programs, and housing options. These application deadlines are program specific.

Attend the Application Workshop to assist students with completing the PC affiliated study abroad programs' applications (offered to approved students in the Spring).

Complete the Study Abroad Course Approval Form and obtain appropriate signatures from departmental chairpersons. This ensures that the courses in which you will enroll overseas will be applied to your PC academic record.

Attend the Pre-Departure Orientation sessions (these sessions will be held in the fall semester for students who will be studying abroad during the spring semester), including the Intercultural Studies Colloquium.

Apply for a passport if you do not already have one or if yours will expire.

Obtain visa and flight information from your particular study abroad program sponsor.
Upon return from the study abroad sojourn, students are invited to Welcome Back/Reunion Sessions with discussions of readjustment, career, and academics.
