  • How To Succeed In D.W.C.: Academic strategies presented by tutors and professors specifically for D.W.C.
  • Improving Your Test Taking Strategies:   Learn special test taking strategies for each type of test: objective, subjective, and essay
  • Improving Your Time Management Strategies:   Organize your responsibilities to enhance your productivity
  • Improving Your Public Speaking: Learn effective strategies for oral presentations
  • Note Taking Strategies: Learn how to improve your note taking abilities
  • Preparing for Final Exams: Learn some anxiety management techniques and strategies for final exams
  • Reading to Remember: Improve your retention and increase your reading rate
  • Sharpen Your Memory: Learn long-term and short-term strategies for using your memory more effectively 
  • What Type Of Student Are You?:   Take a computerized inventory that will assess your academic strengths and weaknesses

 

 

     The Writing Center's "Tea Time" Workshop Descriptions

 

  • Beating the Clock: Writing Essay Exams with Time to Spare: Using the one-hour DWC exam as the primary exam situation, this session offers strategies for managing your time, minimizing your anxiety and performing your best under time constraints.
  • How Stylish Are You?:This session offers a variety of activities to help you develop better "sentence sense," improve your sentence variety and spruce up your overall writing style.
  • Selling the Sizzle: Crafting Effective Cover Letters:This session, which is co-sponsored by the Writing Center and the Career Center, can help you transform your cover letter from one among many to one among the chosen few .
  • To Cite or Not to Cite: Using Research Skillfully and Responsibly: This workshop aims not only to clarify the rules for citing research, but also to help students utilize research more effectively in their own writing.  Basic guidelines for some of the more popular documentation styles (i.e., MLA, APA, etc.) will be introduced.
