Tutorial Services

Individual and group tutoring sessions are available in most subject areas, including Development of Western Civilization.  OAS peer tutors assess individual student needs, develop strategies to address academic problem areas, and help supplement classroom/textbook instruction.  Tutors stress the learning process itself and place an emphasis on the acquisition of permanent study skills.  The Tutorial Center is located within the OAS office suite on the lower level of the Phillips Memorial Library (phone: 401.865.2855).  The hours of operation are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m by appointment only.

International Certification
The College Reading & Learning Association  (CRLA) has fully certified the Tutorial Center acknowledging that the Center's operations, policies, and procedures meet the standards set by the CRLA.  With this full certification, tutors who fulfill the training and service thresholds can be awarded certificates at the progressive levels of Regular, Advanced, and Master.  At the annual OAS Student Appreciation Dinner, thirty-six tutors earned Regular certificates and four earned Advanced certificates for their service over the past year.

Departmental Help Sessions
The OAS also serves as a clearinghouse for the various departmental help sessions that are offered on campus.  For more informaiton, visit the academic department/program help sessions schedule.
