O.A.S. Lab

The O.A.S. student computer/technology lab is outfitted with a Hewlett Packard ScanJet ADF Scanner, eleven desktop computers which are configured with the same software as all student lab computers at PC.  In addition, a variety of assistive and educational technology is available for all students.

Assistive Technology:

  • Dragon Dictate Naturally Speaking 9.  Dragon Dictate is a flexible discrete recognition system that allows the user to create, edit, format, and move text by voice directly in virtually any Windows application.  It provides the user with the ability to operate the PC totally hands-free with voice commands.  Suggested Users: Disabled and non-disabled individuals (Note:  This software is also available on a laptop in the Library.  Please ask a staff member from the Circulation Desk for assistance).
  • Duxbury Brailler/Translator (Demo Version).   Duxbury software processes text information (e.g., word processing files) and embosses (prints) it into Braille format.  Suggested Users: Blind or visually impaired individuals.
  • EText Reader.  Premier Programming Solution's EText Reader is Free Downloadable Software (Note: When you get to webpage the link can be found in the right margin) that reads aloud electronic text from the computer or from Electronic Textbooks.  Suggested Users: Disabled and non-disabled individuals.
  • Optelec 20/20+.  The Optelec 20/20+ is equipped with an electronic imaging system that provides clear, high-contrast images with no distortions.   The main component of the system is a CCD solid-state video camera.  Images can be magnified up to sixty times their original size.  Suggested Users: Visually impaired individuals.
  • Text To Audio Software.  Premier Programming Solution's Text To Audio software is an easy to use tool that converts documents to audio files.  Suggested Users: Disabled and non-disabled students.
  • ZoomText 8.1.  Ai Sqared's ZoomText is powerful screen magnification and screen reading software.  Suggested Users: Low vision or visually impaired individuals. (Note: The 9.0 Version of this software is also available on a laptop in the Library.  Please ask a staff member from the Circulation Desk for assistance).

Additional Software:

  • Ace Reader. Stepware's speed reading software includes exercises to improve reading rate and comprehension.
  • Adobe Acrobat 7.0.  Adobe Acrobat creates and converts documents into a PDF format.
  • GMAT/LSAT/GRE Prep Course Software. These tutorial software programs from StudentMarket.com provides tips, strategies, and sample test questions for the GMAT/LSAT/GRE exams.
  • OmniPage Pro.  ScanSoft's OmniPage Pro 15 is an OCR (Optimal Character Recognition) program that converts scanned information into documents that can be edited and archived.
