The Department of English serves the College community in a variety of writing courses and in the Development of Western Civilization Program (regular and honors). It also assesses English proficiency for all matriculated students and serves majors with a wide variety of traditional and creative courses and formats. The major courses in English develop the disciplines of critical textual reading and analytical writing.

The Majors
Majors are offered in English, English/Creative Writing, and English/secondary education, each of which lead to the bachelor of arts degree.

Writing
The Department of English offers a minor in writing. This program is appropriate for students wishing to concentrate on improving their writing skills, both by the practice of expository writing/editing and by examining good literary models.
