The Department of Modern Languages enhances the mission of the College by offering to all Providence College students the opportunity to study foreign languages and cultures as an integral part of their liberal arts education.

The department offers major programs of study leading to a bachelor of arts degree in French,  Italian, or  Spanish, as well as a major in conjunction with the Secondary Education Program for those preparing to teach languages at the secondary level.  In addition, specially designed programs of study can be created to suit the needs of individual students.  The department welcomes and encourages participation in its programs of study in ways compatible with students' personal interests and goals.

Students may elect to minor in  German, French,  Italian, or  Spanish to complement their major field of study and strengthen their employment potential.  In addition, specially designed programs of study can be created to suit the needs of individual students. 

The Department of Modern Languages strongly encourages students to study abroad and offers information on programs for summer, one-semester, or academic-year courses worldwide.
