Reunion Invites Alumni to ‘Step into Your Story’

Providence College alumni from class years ending in ’2 and ’7 will return to campus June 1 to June 3 for a weekend of social events and to find out more about what’s happening at the College during the annual Reunion Weekend.

The theme of the weekend is “Step into Your Story” — a chance for alumni to relive their PC experience. Alumni can get an update on the College community by attending sessions on the Strategic Plan for 2011 to 2015 as well as the Liberal Arts Honors Program.

In addition, all Golden Friars — alumni who graduated 50 years ago or longer, regardless of their graduation year — will be celebrated at the Golden Friar Mass and Dinner on Friday night, where the newest Golden Friars, alumni from the Class of 1962, will receive commemorative lapel pins.

One of the highlights of the weekend will be WaterFire Providence, which PC will be co-sponsoring this weekend on Friday evening. Alumni of all class years — even those not attending reunion this year — can enjoy complimentary appetizers and a cash bar at Waterplace Restaurant while gazing at the flames burning in the rivers of downtown Providence.

In addition, the family-friendly Reunion BBQ — a signature weekend event — starts at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, followed by entertainment in the Slavin Center.

Other events provide opportunities for alumni to gather and catch up with those in their class years, as well as remember their classmates. Members of the Class of 1992 have raised money to purchase bricks in Alumni Lane to honor the nine graduates from their class who have died. Rev. James F. Quigley, O.P. ’60, associate chaplain of the PC National Alumni Association, will bless the bricks in the Grotto at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

The Classes of 1967, 1972, and 1977 will have a special dinner with their fellow graduates at 6 p.m. Saturday in the Blackfriars Theatre in the Smith Center for the Arts.

The weekend also features more informal gatherings, including a Reunion Golf Outing and Tour of Newport on Friday. On Saturday, Nicole Burrill ’92 will teach yoga at 8:30 a.m. in the Suites Hall Lounge.
