Labor-Management Relations Conference to Discuss Collective Bargaining

The John H. Fanning Conference on Labor-Management Relations will be held on Tuesday, June 5, at Providence College.

The event will be held in the Slavin Center’s ’64 Hall and is sponsored by PC’s Quirk Institute of Industrial Relations. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.

Participants at the conference — titled “Is Collective Bargaining at a Crossroads?” — will consider the potential impact of heightened judicial scrutiny on collective bargaining, both the bargaining process as well as its participants.

The conference will feature several panel presentations, including one on the security of collective bargaining rights. Girard R. Visconti, Esq. ’65 will moderate the discussion, whose panelists will include Matthew T. Oliverio, Esq. ’62 of Oliverio & Maraccio, a Providence-based law firm.

James S. Bennett, director of economic development for the City of Providence, will present the conference’s keynote address at 1 p.m. The event will conclude at 2:30 p.m. with a reception.

The Fanning Conference is organized by a 10-member steering committee, including PC’s Francis T. O’Brien, associate professor of economics and director of the Quirk Institute, and Edwin P. Palumbo, an instructor of economics.
