The Providence College men's and women's cross country and track teams have a history of success that still continues. Three Providence College alumni will be competing at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England.

Kim Smith, a 2005 graduate of Providence College, will be competing in the women's marathon for New Zealand on Sunday, August 5, at 4:00 p.m. (EST). While at Providence College, Smith won numerous NCAA titles. In 2004, she claimed the NCAA Women's Individual Cross Country title. In the 2003-04 season, Smith won the NCAA indoor 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters and the outdoor 5,000 meters, as well as breaking NCAA records in those three events. Smith has experience competing at the Olympic Games, having placed ninth in the 10,000 meters at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Dylan Wykes `05 will be competing in the men's marathon on Sunday, August 12, at 4.00 p.m. (EST) for Canada. As a Friar, Wykes competed in four-consecutive NCAA Cross Country Championships, finishing as the top Friar in 2003. In the 2003-04 season, Wykes captured a BIG EAST indoor title in the 3,000 meters. He also finished third in the 1,500 meters in a time of 3:50.24 at the 2004 BIG EAST Outdoor Championships. Wykes qualified for the Olympic Marathon in April of this year, after he ran the Rotterdam Marathon in a time of 2:10:47.

Stephanie (O'Reilly) Reilly `01, now the cross country and track head coach at Bryant University, will be running the 3,000 meter steeplechase for Ireland at the Olympics. The heats for the 3,000 meter steeplechase begin at 4:35 p.m. (EST) on Saturday, August 4. The final is scheduled for Tuesday, August 6, at 2:05 a.m. (EST). As a Friar, Reilly was a scorer at multiple BIG EAST and ECAC Championships in cross country, indoor and outdoor track. She was also a member of the nationally ranked cross country team. It wasn't until after Providence College that Reilly started competing in the steeplechase.
