Troy Quinn, M.M.

Troy Quinn, has been lauded for his energetic and riveting, yet sensitive conducting throughout the United States and Europe . A native of Connecticut , Quinn pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree from Providence College , where he majored in vocal performance and graduated with honors. While at Providence , Quinn studied voice with David Harper and took on a second concentration in conducting as a student of Michele Holt. There, Quinn was the recipient of the Leo S. Cannon Award for superior achievement in the music field. He went on to earn his master’s degree from the Manhattan School of Music, where he majored in classical voice performance, studying with highly acclaimed Metropolitan Opera singer Mark Oswald.

As a conductor, Quinn has performed internationally, most recently working with the London Soloists Chamber Orchestra at the Royal Academy of Music under the guidance of Boston Philharmonic maestro Benjamin Zander. As an assistant conductor at Providence College , Quinn has led the Providence College touring choir at such notable venues as the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris , and Southwark Cathedral in London . He has also conducted the Manhattan School of Music Chorus and Orchestra in the works of Fauré, Z. Randall Stroope, and John Williams. Quinn is also in demand as an adjudicator and clinician in the New England area and has served as a read through All-State conductor in Rhode Island and Connecticut , preparing choruses for Paul Head and Edward Markward. He has attended Conducting Institutes at the University of South Carolina and at Bard Conservatory of Music, and has been coached by conductors Paul Vermel, Donald Portnoy, and Leon Botstein.

As a tenor soloist, Troy has performed with members of the Rhode Island Philharmonic in Handel’s Messiah, the Manhattan School of Music Opera Orchestra in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, and with “Voices of Joy,” a televised special on the subject of choirs. As a chorister, he has sung under such maestros as Ann Howard Jones, David Gilbert, Larry Rachleff, and Dan Saunders of the Metropolitan Opera. A strong advocate for the art song recital, Quinn has worked with such esteemed artists as Kenneth Merrill and Raymond Beegle, presenting Schumann’s Dichterliebe and has participated in two world premiere chamber operas by Canadian composer James Rolfe. He is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association and is currently on the voice faculty at Providence College where he serves as Special Lecturer in Music and directs the Women’s Chorus.
