Sr. Gail Himrod

Sr. Gail Himrod , O.P ., a member of the Dominican Sisters of Adrian, MI, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Siena Heights College, Adrian, Michigan, a Master of Music from The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Boston University.

A full-time faculty member at Providence College for more than thirty years, Sister Himrod teaches a variety of courses, primarily music history, for music majors and courses for the fine arts requirement.  In addition to teaching, she is a student advisor and serves on several college committees.

In her capacity as a Church Musician, for more than twenty years, she was an Assistant Organist at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Providence and has substituted in a number of churches in the area.  Her current position is organist at St. Alexander’s Church in Warren , RI .

An actively involved member of several professional organizations, Sister Himrod has served on the executive board of the Rhode Island Chapter of the American Guild of Organist, is currently on the Music Committee of the Diocese of Providence, and holds membership in the College Music Society, American Musicological Society, National Association of Schools of Music and Pi Kappa Lambda.

In 1998, she was honored by the National Alumni Association of Providence College with the Faculty/Staff Award.  In progress is a biography of Dr. C. Alexander Peloquin, with whom Sister worked at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, supported in part by a grant from the Providence College Aid to Faculty Research.
