David Martinez, M.A.

David Martinez has been a Special Lecturer in Music at Providence College since 1992. He has taught courses in the History of Church Music, Music Appreciation, Music Theory, Music in the Theater, Baroque Music, and private organ lessons.

Martinez received his Bachelor of Music degree in Church Music and Organ from Northwestern University and a Master of Arts Degree in Music History from the University of Michigan , where he also completed Doctoral course work.  In 1988-89, he carried out doctoral research in Spain on a Fulbright Fellowship. He also has a Master’s degree in Theology from Providence College .

In 2003, he was granted the first “Director of Music Ministries Certification” through the National Association of Pastoral Musicians. He has presented workshops on certification and professional development at recent NPM regional and national conventions. Martinez serves on the Providence Diocesan Music Committee and is a member of the local chapter of the American Guild of Organists.

He is currently the Director of Music Ministries at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Newport , RI and a high school religion teacher at LaSalle Academy in Providence , RI .
