Allyssa Jones, M.M Music Education, is an clinician in vocal jazz pedagogy and arts education and a member of the Boston Arts Academy music faculty. In 2001, Boston Magazine named her one of "40 Bostonians to Watch" for her work with vocal jazz and choral ensembles. Her conducting credits include appearances with the Boston Children's Chorus and the 2007 MMEA Northeast District Junior Festival Treble Chorus.
A 2005 Surdna Fellow and recipient of the Boston Arts Academy-Surdna Artist-in-Residence grant, she currently serves as the Advocacy & Outreach Chair of the MMEA Eastern District.
Also a working professional musician, Jones' credits include performances at numerous venues in Greater Boston, Chicago and Philadelphia, as well as an appearance during Southport Records' "Women of Southport" Jazz Festival. Her writing credits include original music for the new musical The Sing Song Show, which debuted in January 2010. An independent recording artist in her own right, Jones has two solo releases on the Mine Records label. Her original cabaret, The 'S' Word, debuted at Riverside Theatre Works in March 2008, garnering rave reviews. The follow-up show, Seeing Red! Songs of Valentines Loved and Lost premieres in Chicago in February 2010. Currently, Ms. Jones performs with the New England Spiritual Ensemble and continues to work as a freelance jazz vocalist throughout the Northeast and Midwest.
