Major and Minor

The Department of Foreign Language Studies offers a major and a minor in French, as well as a major in French/Secondary Education, in conjunction with the Department of Education, and an individualized major, permitting students to develop an interdisciplinary program by linking French with related fields of interest, such as global studies, political science, art history, management, or biology. The major requires the successful completion of 30 credits/semester hours of course work at the 200 level and above, including the following required courses: FRN 201, 210 , 212, 321, 322: five courses beyond FRN 300, of which at least two must be in literature at the 400 level. French majors should consider additional courses in literature and another foreign language if they plan to continue in graduate French studies. The department strongly encourages students to study abroad and offers information on programs for summer, one-semester, or academic-year courses worldwide. The minor requires 18 credits/semester hours at a level determined by the department to be appropriate for each individual student.
