Providence College is now happy to offer a new major in Creative Writing, which is an alternative to our established major in English. This Creative Writing major provides students interested in developing their skills in writing fiction or poetry with the opportunity to extend their study beyond introductory courses. Besides maintaining the literary rigors of the English major, the Creative Writing major has a capstone course where students can focus on their desired genre and work closely with other students and our established poets and fiction writers. This major is useful to students who are interested in post-graduate studies or in careers as varied as film and advertising. Students will also have the opportunity to work on and submit their work to Providence College's literary magazine, The Alembic, and they will attend readings from some the best contemporary poets and fiction writers.
