DEPARTMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The English Major
A minimum of 30 hours (10 semester courses) is required for graduation in the English concentration. After the Introduction to Literature course (required of all English majors), 4 courses are chosen from group I (before 1800) and 4 from group II (after 1800), plus l from either group. Seminars are limited to 15 students; they emphasize discussion and include a research project.
During each registration period your advisor will help you plan a sequence of courses based on availability of courses and your own interests in literature. Bear in mind that not all of our "regular" courses are offered every year, but almost all of them would be offered within a two‑year cycle, and that there will be a reasonable selection of seminar topics in both the fall and spring semesters to accommodate choice for seniors.
