Elementary/Special Education

The elementary/special education major is a combined program which emphasizes preparation in both areas.  The program allows students to approach the field of education at the elementary level with an appreciation of individual differences and with an understanding of ways to meet those differences within the elementary school organization.  Upon completion of the program, students are eligible for certification as both an Elementary and Special Education teacher in Rhode Island and states with reciprocal agreements.

All teacher education programs offered by the College have been approved by the Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Interstate Certification Compact

Although students may be accepted to the College as Elementary/Special Education Majors, this is a provisional acceptance to the program.  A formal admissions process will take place no later than the sophomore year.
