Special Programs and Resources
Internships
The Office of Career Services offers students opportunities for structured, supervised work experiences that enable them to gain practical, “real-world” exposure to a particular career or professional field.
School Year Academic Internships
Juniors and seniors in good academic standing are eligible to earn academic credit for internships. Academic internships generally run for one semester and offer three academic credits. The time commitment usually involves 8-12 hours per week at the site and may or may not include a seminar. More than 16 departments/programs at Providence College offer an internship or field experience course. Specific guidelines covering student eligibility, course registration, prerequisites, faculty supervision, grading, pay for internships, and deadlines vary by academic department/program. To learn about these guidelines and to obtain internship site approval, students should contact the department or program most closely aligned to their internship interests. The College internship coordinator also can provide information on departmental offerings, guidelines, and procedures.
All students participating in academic internships have both a faculty supervisor and a site supervisor and are required to submit a “Learning Agreement for Internships and Field Experiences.” This form offers a description of the internship with specifically stated learning objectives and outlines the responsibilities and requirements of all participating parties.
For more information on academic internships, call the Career Planning & Internship Service at (401) 865-1530 or go to www.providence.edu/career and click on Students > Internships > School Year Academic Internships.
Summer Academic Internships
Full-time day students entering their junior or senior year may participate in a summer internship for academic credit. Students initiate the process by meeting with the College internship coordinator. Students are responsible for investigating and identifying summer internship opportunities. Summer internship course registration is available through the School of Continuing Education (SCE) after permission has been obtained from the Office of the Dean of Undergraduate Studies and the appropriate academic department/program. Completion of a “Summer Learning Agreement for Internships/Field Experiences” is required for summer academic-credit internships. Also, the student must find a member of the faculty who is willing to serve as his or her internship faculty supervisor throughout the term of the summer internship.
For more information, call the Career Planning & Internship Service at (401) 865-1530 or go to www.providence.edu/career and click on Students > Internships > Summer Academic Internships.

A new initiative, the Friars Summer Intern Partners Program, encourages alumni organizations to recruit PC students for high-quality, paid summer opportunities.
