Anti-Harassment Policy Statement
Harassment of and by students, staff, and faculty that is based on a person’s sex, race, color, national origin, religion, age, disability, or veteran’s status is a form of discrimination that is prohibited by law and College policy. Providence College takes action to prevent such misconduct and anyone who engages in such behavior may be subject to disciplinary procedures.

Anti-Smoking Policy Statement
Providence College is designated a smoke-free campus. Smoking by faculty and staff members, students, and visitors is prohibited in all College-owned and -operated buildings and vehicles, residence halls, and apartments. Smoking is allowed in designated outdoor smoking areas only.

Eleven smoking areas are located near or between the following buildings: Peterson Recreation Center/Slavin Center, Schneider Arena, Raymond Hall/St. Joseph’s Hall/Feinstein Academic Center, Davis Hall/Bedford Hall, Accinno Hall/Guzman Hall, Fennell Hall/Howley Hall/Sullivan Hall/Ceramics Building, DiTraglia Hall/Cunningham Hall, Library/Quadrangle, Sowa Hall/Hickey Hall/Albertus Magnus Hall, and Slavin Center/Harkins Hall walkway. Waste receptacles are provided in designated smoking locations.

Buckley Amendment (FERPA) Statement
Providence College is in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974 as Amended, also known as the Buckley Amendment. FERPA is a federal privacy law that protects educational records from improper disclosures. It also provides students with the right to inspect and review their records, to request an amendment, to limit disclosure, and to file a complaint. The College provides students annual notice regarding these rights and the procedures for exercising them.

Copyright Compliance Policy
The federal Copyright Law requires all members of the Providence  College  community to respect the proprietary rights of owners of copyrights and to refrain from actions that constitute an infringement of copyright or other proprietary rights. Copyright guidelines have been developed to assist the College community in complying with the federal law.  

Willful disregard of the College’s Copyright Policy by members of the PC community may result in personal liability in the event that legal action is taken against them. Further, the College may refuse to defend employees named in a court suit and employees may be personally liable for any damages incurred as a result of the copyright violation.

Crime Awareness and Campus Security Statement
In compliance with the federal Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990 (The Clery Act), Providence College prepares and publishes an annual security report containing the incidence of crime on the PC campus and the policies and procedures for preventing or reporting occurrences of such crime. This report is available to all current students and employees and to any applicant for enrollment or employment upon request.

Drug- and Substance-Free Campus Statement
Providence College, pursuant to the Drug Free Schools and Communities Act Amendments of 1989 and the Drug Free Workplace Act of 1988, has adopted and implemented a program that prohibits the unlawful manufacture, distribution, dispensing, possession, or use of controlled substances and alcohol by students and employees of the College. Providence College will impose appropriate sanctions for violations of these standards.

Policy on Missing Persons Statement
Providence College, in cooperation with the Office of Residence Life and the Office of Safety and Security, has developed a comprehensive policy regarding missing persons. This policy requires the regular tracking of the presence (location) of all resident students, and further, the implementation of specified procedures in the event that a student has not been on campus for three consecutive days or has been reported “missing.” For more information, consult the Student Handbook.

Services for Disabled Students Statement
Providence College is committed to providing disabled students access to all of the academic, social, and recreational activities offered on campus. The focal point for coordinating and accessing individualized services is the disability support services coordinator in the Office of Academic Services.

Title II-Institutions of Higher Education Statement for 2003-2004
Students who have completed Providence College’s 2003-2004 teacher education program have earned a pass rate of 94% on required tests for initial licensure required by the Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The average pass rate for teacher preparation programs in Rhode Island is 85%. During the 2003-2004  academic year, there were 489 students in the undergraduate and graduate teacher preparation programs at the College. Two hundred clock hours of supervised student teaching are required for graduate students in special education; 300 clock hours are required for secondary education students in biology, chemistry, English, history, mathematics, social studies, Italian, French, and Spanish; and 400 clock hours for elementary/special education and music education teacher candidates. The student/faculty ratio in supervised student teaching is 4.7:1.

Usage Policy for Information Technology (IT) Resources Statement
Providence College has developed a stringent set of standards for the use of the College’s information technology resources by students, staff, and faculty. Providence College grants the privilege to use the College’s IT resources with the understanding that such use will be in conformity with the mission, educational goals, and values of Providence College. Anyone in violation of the usage policy and/or the set of standards for use may be subject to disciplinary action and may have his or her IT privileges terminated or suspended.
