Providence, R.I.--The Providence College New Haven Alumni Club will celebrate its 50th annual Veritas dinner by honoring Joseph P. Brum '68, PC special assistant to the president for development projects, with a Veritas Award on Thursday, May 7.
The night will begin with a reception at Anthony's Ocean View in New Haven at 6:30 p.m. A dinner and awards program will start at 7:30 p.m. All proceeds will support the New Haven Alumni Scholarship Fund, which has provided more than $500,000 in assistance to PC students over the past 50 years.
This year's event will recognize all past Veritas Award and scholarship recipients, along with Brum.
Brum came to PC in 1971 as the first full-time secretary of the PC Alumni Association. In 1973, he was promoted to director of alumni affairs. Under his direction, the association was reorganized and eight new regional organizations were added, forming a national network of 16 alumni clubs.
In 1979, Brum was promoted to director of alumni and development. He established the Parents for Providence organization and created the first President's Circle fundraising initiatives in major cities. In 1988, Brum was appointed vice president for alumni/development. During his tenure in that role, he completed the $25 million Campaign for Providence and initiated Providence 2000, the College campaign that raised more than $70 million.
The most visible product of the Providence 2000 campaign is St. Dominic Chapel on campus, for which Brum also served as chairman of the Chapel Building and Design Committee. He has served in his current position since 2003.
