Providence, R.I.--The Providence College Office of Admission will host accepted students of the Class of 2013 and their families for the 19th annual Family Day, April 18, on campus.
Jennifer O'Connor, associate dean of admission, said visitors who attend the daylong event will be welcomed by more than 300 students, staff, and faculty members.
O'Connor added that the day's events are an effective way for incoming freshmen "to gain the most comprehensive PC experience." She said the College is expecting families from all of New England, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Maryland, Wisconsin, Illinois, California, Virginia, and Pennsylvania.
Family Day will begin with a Mass at St. Dominic Chapel at 10:00 a.m., followed by registration and welcoming addresses by College President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P. '80, Owen R. Bligh '10 of Holyoke, Mass., and Dr. Robert B. Hackey, professor of health policy and management and the recipient of the 2007-08 Joseph R. Accinno Faculty Teaching Award at PC.
Following the remarks, families will have the chance to "Meet the Providence College Community," when representatives from nearly 60 academic departments and programs, offices, and student clubs gather inside the Peterson Recreation Center to answer questions.
The rest of the agenda includes open houses at several facilities around campus and numerous academic and non-academic panel discussions.
Discussion topics will include the School of Business, on-campus living, and studying abroad, and there will also be a sample lecture by a Department of Western Civilization faculty member.
