Dear New Student:

Welcome to the Providence College community.

Throughout the summer, we will provide you with the tools to select courses for your first semester at Providence College.  This will be done online using our course management software, ANGEL.  Once we have received your ANGEL Course Selection Survey, we will register you.  Rest assured that you will have ample time to review and adjust your schedule, and, during New Student Orientation, you will work with your academic advisor to finalize your fall courses and to further consider your academic plans.

ANGEL

As a member of ANGEL, you have access to Placement Tests and all of the information you need to make your course selections for the fall, at http://angel.providence.edu

  1. To log on, enter your ANGEL username and password (provided by mail following your acceptance to PC.)
  2. You will then be prompted to change your password.
  3. Click on Logon.
  4. Once you have logged on, your Profile Page will be visible.  You are a member of the three Placement Test groups and the Incoming Students group which you will see listed here.

Placement Tests:

Before you begin to consider your course selections, you should complete the appropriate Placement Tests which are on your ANGEL home page.

  • ALL incoming first year students must complete the online Placement Test in Mathematics on or before Friday, June 8th.  These results, in combination with a review of your high school background, SAT and other test scores, will allow us to pre-register you correctly into a mathematics course if it is required for your major.  Rest assured, you will have an opportunity to adjust your schedule at orientation if you think your placement is incorrect.
  •   If you have studied Spanish, Italian and/or French in high school, we urge you to complete the Placement Test in Spanish, Italian and/or French.  This will ensure that you enroll in the appropriate course if and when you decide to continue your language studies at the college.  The language placement tests must be completed by June 8th.
  1. Click on the test you wish to take first.  Follow the instructions to take the test.
  2. Click on Submit when you are finished.
  3. You may then take additional tests, if necessary, or log off until later.

You will need about an hour for each of the tests.  There is a Mathematics Placement Survey which you must complete before you begin the Placement Test in Mathematics.  The language placement tests have audio components, so be sure to use a computer with sound.  You do not need to take them at the same time. Remember, you may take your placement test(s) anytime after you receive your username, but you must finish by June 8th.  If you have any questions about the placement testing, please feel free to contact the placement test coordinator at (401) 865-2177 or ccrafts@providence.edu

Course Selection:

You are also a member of the Incoming Students group on ANGEL.  Here you will find all the necessary information for making your fall semester course selections.  Carefully review the Guide to Planning, Course Selection and Pre-registration.  It provides you with information about your major, how to choose your fall semester courses, and recommendations from your department or program.  Once you have reviewed these materials, you should be ready to complete the Course Selection Survey for the Class of 2013

  • All first year students must complete the Course Selection Survey for Class 2013 byJune 8th.  Your survey responses will allow us to register you for your fall semester schedule prior to your arrival for New Student Orientation in September.
  • Undeclared students should also complete the Pre-Orientation Interest Survey for Undeclared Students, also by June 8th

CyberFriar & Your Schedule:

CyberFriar (http://cyberfriar.providence.edu/) is another online tool that provides you online access to your academic, financial and personal information.  In mid-July, when preregistration is complete, you will be notified and will be able to preview your preliminary fall semester schedule.  At that time,

  • If you have questions about the required courses for your major and wish to adjust your schedule, you should contact your department chair or program director.
  • If you wish to adjust any of your elective courses, you may contact the Office of Enrollment Services at (401) 865-2396.

Requests for schedule adjustments should be made by August 1st.
