Who We Are
The Center for Teaching Excellence was established in the fall of 1992.
The Center for Teaching Excellence values excellence in teaching and learning, and promotes effective pedagogy and scholarship through mentoring resources, programming, dialogue and recognition.
The Center for Teaching Excellence serves the Providence College teaching community, which includes all faculty and staff who interact with students as part of their learning experience.
We are staffed by a part time director and a full time administrative assistant. Several members of the faculty are involved with the development and delivery of presentations and workshops.
The CTE Advisory Group meets monthly and consists of faculty who represent various departments, programs, and constituents.
Who We Serve
Most of our workshops, presentations, and services are designed for full and part time faculty at Providence College. We occasionally sponsor or co-sponsor events that are designed for faculty, students, staff, and local community members.
What We Do
There are many ways in which the center provides support related to teaching and learning, including:
Orientation for new faculty.
Workshops on teaching and learning topics such as pedagogy, assessment, and course design.
Midsemester assessments where student feedback is gathered and shared with faculty.
Programming throughout the academic year that focuses on effective teaching and learning.
Resource library of books and periodicals that emphasize effective teaching.
One-on-one consultations with faculty who seek guidance or feedback regarding a particular aspect of their teaching.
Financial assistance for faculty who travel to conferences that will contribute to improved teaching.
